Turning On the Traffic Tap with Video SEO

Most of us know that a site that's well optimized for search engines is a vital factor in driving high levels of traffic to your website. The one hugely important element that is largely ignored though, is VIDEO and smart marketers are rushing to take advantage of this strategy before the rest of the world catches on.

Multimedia content has already become the most popular way of conveying information - whether promotional or instructional and correct video search engine optimization is the key to achieving success and standing out from the competition.

YouTube for example, is one of the top video sharing sites as well as one of the most important video search engines today. It accounts for close to 95% of the videos viewed via Google and more than 80 million people watched over four billion videos last year.

With over thirteen hours of new videos submitted every minute and more than fifty percent of web surfers and online video watchers sharing links with others, getting a good YouTube ranking is an important way to drive traffic to your site.

For website owners and publishers of video content, Video SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is one of the most powerful ways of getting more exposure, a higher profile and free traffic. However, being found by viewers must happen before you can get loads of views. In order to achieve this happy result, your data must be rich in meta information, and you should be using RSS feeds that are updated regularly.

It is important to ensure that you produce well optimized content before you submit your video to the various search engines. This places you in the queue for spiders (web crawlers) waiting to index your site - which will happen faster than if you just left your site online without submission. The more regularly your content is crawled, the better your chance of rating well on search results.

Google or YouTube are not the only search engines to index your site. Make sure you submit your video to as many of the hundreds of other video sharing sites and search engines that exist today (MSN, Bing, Yahoo, Blinkx, etc. etc.) and you will bump up your rating exponentially.

Every search site has different specifications for submissions and its important to pay individual attention to each, in order to ensure that your video receives the importance it deserves. If the website owner is not conversant with these unique requirements, it is well worth their while to hire a professional to do this task for them to get the best results.

As an extension of your strategy, make sure you publish a further series of related videos at regular intervals. When a viewer sees a video online that they like, there's a good chance that they will search for others like them. While a single, well designed video will be popular, you'll do even better if it's part of a series. The more views you get, the more you will be linked to by other sites, which will result in higher rankings on all the search engines.

Use an embedded video player and many more viewers end up watching your submissions. Don't use pop-up players though, since they tend to annoy more people than they entertain and make sure that your viewer retains control of when to start/stop/pause your video. You can even customize your video player to display playlists and other information, giving your viewers a choice as to which video to watch. Make sure that your video is the right length for your audience - too long and you start losing them.

Use Google Analytics to see how long a customer stays on your video page, which will tell you if your video is too long. You can also use analytics to tell you which of your videos get the best response. Once you know this, you'll be able to decide which content should be linked first on your home page.

Remember if you're a local business using video to advertise, clicks are not as important as calls and sales are the bottom line. Always include a call to action with your contact information at the end of (or even during) your video

Make sure that your videos are high enough in quality and professionally developed - you never know, they might end up on Google TV, which is very affordable.

Keep descriptions and titles consistent and file names should be descriptive so they make sense to the viewer. Keep in mind that different video sites require different approaches. Correctly researched keywords are vital however - keyword rich content will help videos hosted on your own website as well as on video search sites.

Make sure you include your URL in the beginning of the video description to ensure that it is always seen and also end the video with a mention of your link. Allow comments since that adds refreshed content to your channel/site/blog but try and moderate those comments before they are published to avoid negative remarks from being displayed.

While you might turn up early in a search with good optimization, an unappealing video will cause viewers to click off and never return. If you know what kind of content your audience prefers, you'll be able to create the right video marketing plan for your business or organization.

Today, Video SEO has become a major component of any marketing strategy. With its exceptionally high return on your investment, in today's business world, online video is one of the most important tools in your marketing arsenal and one that you ignore at your own peril!

10 Ways To More Website Website Traffic

Every website needs more traffic - qualified traffic, which is as targeted as possible to the product or service you are promoting. Traffic is the key to every online business. Its basically a numbers game. No traffic = No business, More traffic = More sales. The only  question is, How?

Here are 10 of the most popular methods:

1. Pay-Per-Click (PPC)

Of all the pay per click search engines, Google Adwords is the largest and most popular.

This method, when done correctly, will increase your exposure, and give fast results. You must keep up to date with Google's rules, so be sure to read them. You pay a one off fee when you register and set up your campaign. You can have your campaign up and running in minutes. There is a minimum bid, but of course you will have to pay more than this. But the beauty of Adwords is you can set a daily budget of how much you are willing to spend.

You can create as many campaigns as you want, and then test your ads (changing the headline for example).

Google provide tools to help you with your campaigns, and have exellent tutorials that walk you through everything from signing up to creating your Adwords campaigns.

2. Link Popularity

This is achieved when other sites have links to your site. If a high traffic site has links, the search engines perceive both sites must be popular. The important thing is to have quality web sites linking back to your site.

Why should anyone want to link to your site? If you have quality content, this adds perceived value and makes your site popular, so others will want to link to you.The type of content could be:

Free downloads

Free reports, articles, ezine or newsletter

Video

Links to other good sites

3. Link Exchanges

This is where you exchange links reciprocally with other highly ranked sites. You can create a links page on your site, which creates a resource for your visitors. Find quality web sites related to your subject and contact the webmaster about exchanging links.

4. Ezine Advertising

Most ezines accept advertising. Ezines are online or email newsletters. They are used to build a relationship between a webmaster and a web site visitor, with news, updates, special offers etc. But as always they should have quality content. You place an ad in ezines that are highly targeted towards your niche. Prices depend on the ezine, and also the position of the ad. The most expensive is the solo ad, where yours is the only ad.

5. Article Submissions

Submitting articles is a great way to build back links and web site visitors. Your articles can become 'viral' when others want to re-publish them on their sites, or use them in their newsletters and ezines. You include links to your site in the author resource box offering more free information. The resource box is your chance to convince the reader to visit your web site.

Two of the most popular places to post your articles are http://www.goarticles.com/ and http://www.EzineArticles.com.

6. Forum Posting

In order to be successful using forums there are some things that are required. Do Your Homework: Prior to joining any forum, you must do some research. Join relevant forums that are in some way related to the promotion's primary sales market. Choose popular forums. There is no point in wasting your time and energy on forums that few members and few posts. Page raking and the amount of active members are two good ways to check for this. Choose forums that allow sig tags. Read the rules before joining and pay attention to them. You've Joined: now what?

Keep your sig tag short and update it regularly. The ideal thing is to limit yourself to one link, preferably to your main website. Never create posts that are nothing more than an advertisement. This is a universal rule. At best this kind of post will be deleted by the monitors, at worst, you will be banned. Be an active member on the forum. Plan to spend at least an hour each day there. Get to know the users. Iintroduce yourself with intelligent questions depending upon the forum's topic.

Use Your Sig file to the best advantage and within the rules. Some Forums have places where you can advertise and give special deals to members.

7. Social Bookmarking

In a social bookmarking system, users store lists of Internet resources that they find useful. These lists are both accessible to the public or a specific network, and other people with similar interests can view the links by category, tags, or even randomly. Some allow for privacy on a per-bookmark basis.

Social Bookmarking can bring immediate traffic to your website, as web 2.0 community websites such as Technorati, Digg, Reddit and Tailrank provide almost immediate information on various topics. These type of Bookmarking sites index and categorize content usually faster than the major search engines. People looking for the latest information on certain topics usually refer to these types of services.

Some Bookmarking Accounts to check out are:

http://digg.com

http://technorati.com/

You can increase your Bookmarking using the free submission site:  http://www.OnlyWire.com to bookmark many accounts at once. When you signup to OnlyWire.com you can use many bookmark accounts and with one simple procedure bookmark your blog post to all your accounts at once. OnlyWire.com interfaces with numerous sites including Backflip, Bibsonomy, Blinklist, Blogmemes, Blue Dot, de.lirio.us, del.icio.us, Diigo, Furl, Jots, Linkroll, Looklater, Wink, etc. If you don't have a Bookmark Account for the ones listed go and sign up.

8. Viral Traffic using free reports - ebooks etc.

9. Directory Submissions

Submit your website url's to the search engines Google, Yahoo, MSN.

10. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization, (SEO), is making web pages attractive to the search engines. The better optimized your web page is, the higher a ranking it will achieve in the search engines. Most people searching the internet only look at the first couple of search results on page 1. When optimizing for the search engines make sure that each web page contains the good title tags, meta tags, keywords and/or key phrases and descriptions, not to mention keyword-rich text content appropriate to the page.

People who have been adhering to the same old tactics while researching keywords might do well to shake things up a little - or a lot. A search engine marketing expert recently shared her insights and gave some advice on the matter.

Christine Churchill, the President of KeyRelevance, said in an interview at SMX Advanced that she’s seen some “amazing changes” take place in respect to what’s working. “This past year or so, with this economic depression that we’ve had . . . some of the terms that have been very consistent over the years . . . you’ll actually see a very strong downward trend,” stated Churchill.

The Importance of Video Testimonials

All prospects tend to view your text testimonials with some skepticism - after all, I could write up a testimonial about myself and put pen to paper - but where's the proof that there really was a customer who really said all those nice things about me?

The Video Testimonial, on the other hand, actually shows a real live person who can look your prospect in the eye and tell them exactly what they loved about your company - persuasive, undeniable testimony to your value.

Your goal is to provide so much proof, so much tangible evidence of the power of your solution... and so much anticipation... that even the most skeptical prospect feels relieved at finding proof that someone else has endorsed your product or service.

People are naturally cynical and your job is to use the power of Video testimonials to reassure them that they have made the right decision to place an order with you.

Any business looking to do any serious business online needs to think about putting video testimonials on their website. These days its a tool one cannot afford to be seen without.

Tip of the Month

Online Video Tip

There is one very basic rule in video production - Visuals convey Information; Audio conveys Emotion.

Many video producers use inferior audio equipment combined with poor setup and wonder why their sound does not stack up, while others may use the best equipment money can buy but still get inconsistent results.

A good Lavalier Microphone connected to the camcorder will give good results. While a wired mic gives the best results, a quality UHF (or preferably VHF) wireless system is essential for getting good sound without a wired connection. It should be kept in mind that even the best wireless system may be prone to dropouts and other interference from nearby wireless gadgets.

Remember, if you record poor-quality sound, it will always be poor quality video, regardless of how you try to enhance it in post-production.

Did You Know...

The best links for link exchanges come from websites which contain similar and related, but not exactly the same type of material or content.

E.g.: A website for selling Hair Dryers would benefit from a link that comes from a website that discusses Shampoos or Hair Loss Problems.

The link should direct visitors to a specific, related page within your website. It is a mistake to direct all incoming links to your home page. This is called Deep Linking, which appears more natural to search engines, whereas directing all visitors to a single page or the home page could be interpreted as an effort to manipulate search engine ranking.
